Civil Service

Would you like to do a civilian service abroad as a substitute for military service as part of a voluntary social service? Then Concordia Social Projects is the right place for you!

We offer social services in child, youth and family social projects in the Republic of Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria, where you can help on the one hand and gain valuable experience for your own life.

Concordia Social Projects is a recognised supporting organisation of the BMASK Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Consumer Protection. A minimum of 10 months of voluntary social service at Concordia will be credited towards fulfilling the civil service obligation. The framework conditions of the Voluntary Service Act apply to the deployment. Detailed information on the new Foreign Volunteers Act of 2.1.2018 can be found here.

In 7 steps to the civil service abroad

  • Civilian service declaration: It is important that you submit the declaration of civilian service in due time after your placement. You send it to your placement commission. Then you will no longer be liable for military service but for civil service.
  • Information for us as the supporting organisation: Please tell us on your application form that you would like to do your social service abroad as a substitute for alternative civilian service.
  • Information for the Civilian Service Service Agency: Parts of the Civilian Service Agency (ZISA) should be informed as soon as possible of your interest in doing social service abroad, preferably by e-mail to info@zivildienst.gv.at.
  • Concordia-agreement to ZISA: After completion of the admission procedure you will receive a written agreement from us. Make sure that the ZISA has all the necessary documents and send the Concordia agreement by e-mail or post.
  • Completion of the social assignment: Your social assignment abroad must last for at least 10 months, copy of the centrificat to ZISA: After completion of the voluntary service you will receive a certificate from Concordia. You must send a copy of this certificate to ZISA within one month of completing the voluntary service.
  • Confirmation from ZISA: ZISA will then send you a confirmation that you will no longer be called up for community service.
